Smartphone QR Codes

Smartphone quick response (QR) codes are being used more frequently by US consumers, as over 14 million smartphone owners in the US reported scanning QR codes with their phones in the month of June alone.

This number equates to roughly 6% of the total US mobile market, and the demographic breakdown is interesting. 60% of those scanning QR codes were male, with 53% between the ages of 18 and 34 and 36% with household incomes of over $100,000. While the numbers seem large, it still represents only about 10% of all smartphone owner who are paying any attention to QR codes. Many people consider them to be a hassle because they must be scanned with the phone camera. This process usually involves a delay as the QR code sis read, and users are most often just directed to another site.
