Wi-Fi Is Important, But Not Coming Yet

According to the Washington Post, CEO Ed Colligan of palm has said that Wi-Fi is indeed important, but it will be available only "at the right time," mentioning its impact on battery life. So far, only the Palm TX has Wi-Fi built-in. Palm does sell a Wi-Fi expansion card, but only the Treo 700w and some older models can use it.

Battery life may indeed be a factor in the decision, but the point is probably what Palm's consumers want; if they don't get it, they'll look somewhere else. Other smartphones already have Wi-Fi built in. Is the company suffering from its relatively small R&D budget?
