You see, Ryan Block recently interviewed Ralph de la Vega. And in the lengthy transcript, it became clear that Mr. de la Vega of AT&T wanted readers to think that Nokia was the chief reason behind Symbian's lack of profile in the US:
"So they release and develop everything to work in Europe first. Now as a result of our complaining they have built a development lab in San Diego to begin to develop devices for the US. They are still not on par with other companies, but that is my biggest pet peeve. Why are you doing these things for Europe first, as opposed to us. So its not that we have been holding it up."
It would seem convenient to attack Nokia for the lack of its entry into the US, but one has to reconsider that position when they learn how much they've been investing into downtown Los Angeles.

It's tricky to push your own carrier-agnostic agenda, yet sell mobile phones through the carriers. It will be interesting to see how things look at the end of next year, given all the various industry changes that have already occurred and will occur over the next 6 months or so.
