What You Need to Know About Flash Lite

Interest may be growing in Flash Lite, a less demanding version of Flash designed for smartphones. But it has yet to gain wide acceptance, probably because some of the programs currently available on the platform are simplistic at best, and a waste of space at worst. I think though it's only a matter of time before Flash Lite goes mainstream; as someone with experience in ActionScript, I know how powerfully versatile Flash can be.
Luckily though, some people are keeping tabs on what's happening in Flash Lite. Here's some useful info for those who want to use the platform:
The Platform: The Flash Lite player is available from Adobe for $9.95, even though the Flash player for desktops is free. Perhaps this is another barrier to Flash Lite's success? Solsie also has a preview on Flash Lite Windows Mobile. There's also a version of Flash (not Lite) available for Pocket PCs.
The Programs: Justin keeps track of new Flash Lite developments. Actionscript.it is currently holding the 2nd Mobile Game Contest, though I can't seem to find the download links of last year's winners.
For applications, the winners of the 2005 FL Application Contest may reveal some gems.
