What Can be Done About the Treo 680's Poor Battery Life?

Its decently-sized thumboard and ease-of-use are impressive, but aside from a lack of Wi-Fi, the Treo 680's weak battery may cause some hesitation in potential buyers. It barely lasts more than a day of normal usage, meaning it had to be plugged in every night. Bringing around a charger when going out of town for a few days is a hassle many would rather live without.

Seidio could come to the rescue. The manufacturer makes extended batteries for the Treos, recently releasing a 3300mAh battery (mAh = milliamp hour, a measure of a battery's energy capacity) that theoretically provides 77% more power for the 700p, 700w, and 700wx models. Maybe the company can release a version for the 680 soon? There's a 2400mAh variant available that also works on 650s.

If you're really committed to keeping your Treo powered 24/7, perhaps carrying extra batteries, pre-charged with an external battery charger, may be a good idea. Even a bunch of batteries will fit in a pocket.

Update: MyTreo.net has published a review of the 3200mAH battery.
