Call me biased, but since I've spent my whole mobile life under the radio waves of GSM cell towers, I'd pick this technology over CDMA any day of the year. That's why Verizon's planned move to LTE (Long Term Evolution), basically the 4G version of GSM, is good news to me.
CDMA may be technically superior (at least, that's what its proponents say), but the fact remains that GSM is more widely used. If you own a smartphone or PDA phone that runs on GSM networks, chances are you can use the phone practically anywhere there's coverage. I guess that's what you get when you focus more on interoperability, and less on establishing technological dominance.

In order to compete globally, GSM is the better way to go since it's the standard network for Europe and Asia. And that will leave Sprint the only carrier in the US to stick to CDMA, good luck.
