The Treo 680 is not the Treo 650

Yes yes, we know the Treo 680 has a lot in common with its older brother. But there are some differences:

  • New Button Layout. The tweaks are really slight, but the 680's key layout makes a lot more sense and is easier-to-use.

  • Lighter and Thinner. On paper it isn't noticeable, but the 680's thinner (20.3 vs. 23 mm) and lighter (157 vs. 178 grams) profile makes it an easier smartphone to handle.

  • Somewhat Improved Connectivity. It still doesn't have Wi-Fi, but the 680 is EDGE-capable, while the 650 isn't.

  • More Memory. The 680 has around three times the memory of the 650's. 64 vs. 24MB.

  • Software Features. Aside from the tweaked phone interface, the 680 comes with pre-installed with the Voice Memo and Pocket tunes apps. A useful addition is the "Ignore with Text" function, which allows you to immediately send an SMS to your contact explaining why you rejected his call.

Need I mention themissing antenna? Then again, there's also that less powerful battery. At least Palm fixed that.

Disclaimer: I work for a local distributor of Palm products. Which is why I got the scoop on the Philippine launch of the Treo 680, and What Palm Wants You to Know About the Treo.
