Over the last few days, people have buzzed like bees about two new gadgets from i-mate, a Dubai-based company that rebrands and sells Windows Mobile-powered devices.
Indeed, i-mate's two newest models, the JAQ and SPL, were manufactured by Inventec and TechFaith respectively. The company announced their official existence in the recently concluded CTIA Wireless IT 2006, and through a press release. This actually represents a change, as i-mate usually sells HTC devices.
It's quite obvious that both these phones are rip-offs of Motorola's hot models. The JAQ is a Q-wannabe (though you can argue it looks like a Nokia E62), and the SPL's a would-be SLVR. They'd better be cheap, as knock-offs should be. Availability from i-mate isn't clear yet; expect this from a later edition of The Smart PDA.
Why, You Shouldn't Have! Helpfully, i-mate has provided full specs and pictures of the JAQ and SPL on their website.
