The Mobile World Congress, or the renamed 3GSM, is currently happening. Today, veteran actor Robert Redford will actually participate during the keynote! Why, you ask? Turns out the marketing is pushing a relationship between Redford's Sundance institute and smartphones as new content platforms:
...will explore the potential of mobile - the '4th screen' - as a medium for independent filmmakers to reach new audiences on a global basis. His appearance at the Congress follows the collaborative Sundance Film Festival: Global Short Film Project with the GSMA, showcased at last year's event, and follows on the heels of this year's Sundance Film Festival...
I'm finding myself trying to look beyond the marketing fluff driving this development, and hope that Redford's collaboration actually represents something significant for aspiring filmmakers.
