Somebody’s Using Cell Phones to Make Chain Mails Even More Useless

Coincidences are everywhere, aren't they?
I've recently received a chain email, which of course promises something big will happen if you forward it to X number of people. But this particular waste-of-time goes beyond that; it actually promises that your phone will ring once you've cluttered up your friends' inboxes. And of course, the sender, an acquaintance of mine, testified that this actually happened.
Whatever. Perhaps this message is more effective in areas where there are a lot of mobile subscribers, such as where I stay. The fact that a phone would ring right after you send an email is a coincidence at best, and a matter of someone monitoring your net traffic and having significant control over your mobile. Which scenario sounds more plausible?
