Social Networking and SMS Combined?

Thanks to my post on SMSJock, FeedText was kind enough to let me try out their new web-based mobile service officially launching in the next few days. Hobnobster apparently mixes the virtual interaction of social networking and the immediacy of SMS.
Just like on websites like MySpace, Multiply and Friendster, Hobnobster allows its users to build online contacts, find like-minded individuals, and send personal messages to virtual friends. But the website stands out by offering smartphone or PDA phone users updates of their profiles through SMS. When you get new messages or invitations on the website for example, you also receive them as texts on your mobile.
Hobnobster only works for US subscribers. Keep in mind that texts received or sent to the website carry a charge, as do the service's other features. Here's an interesting one: someone declares himself as your secret admirer. Want to find out who? Just pay $2.99. Hobnobster looks to be a great, although a little expensive, way of keeping in touch with online contacts wherever you are. Find out more on their FAQ page.

We have been offering this worldwide for a number of months – infact live test were first done in Q1 2005 but we went away and expanded, enhanced, and upscaled servers for greater capacity. Users can message, via SMS from web or mobile, to other users, or via our new J2ME IM; this is also on a location basis, worldwide. Cheers, Andrew -Founder http://www.playtxt.net

Interesting… for which smartphones does your J2ME IM work for?
