Sensible Mobile Device Laws Pass in California
RCR Wireless has some great news. The California Legislature has put forward three laws which will affect Smartphone and PDA usage in the US' most populous state. Only Governor Ah-nold's veto can prevent it from taking effect on January 1, 2008.

Here are the three bills:

  • Penalizes drivers for not using hands-free devices for calls. A $20 dollar will accrue for the first offense, $50 for subsequent violations.

  • Customers can now contest unauthorized wireless charges.

  • The user must now give explicit confirmation before using any Wi-Fi service. Manufacturers must also place prominent warning stickers on the routers.

Supporting Cast: Palm has been trumpeting how they're the first, and so far only, "Cell Phone Manufacturer in Support" of the first bill.
