Seriously, if the announced specs are true, the 8820 is packing a lot of meat inside: The WiFi adapter works with three generations (802.11a/b/g), and there's a built-in GPS receiver. RIM made the right choice dropping the SureType keyboard, going with the old but reliable QWERTY thumbboard. Like the BlackBerry Pearl (8100), this one has a trackball controller just underneath the landscape QVGA display.
But it's not all drool-worthy. For one thing, there's no camera, though this won't be too much of a problem for them corporate types. What's really lacking is advanced 3G connectivity support such as HSDPA. This could've been RIM's chance to take the world by storm, giving its loyal users an ultra-connected option equal to other makers' high-end offerings. At least the BlackBerry 8820 supports SDHC memory cards, meaning it can handle up to 32GB of extra memory.
Thanks to Mobile Whack for the heads-up. And to GSM Arena for the pic.
