All right, the units involved are technically not smartphones, but since this news report from West Bengal has a lot to do with Nokia's recent battery warning, it gains some attention from The Smart PDA:
The shop owner, one Ajit Prasad, said his handset exploded within minutes of putting on charge.
Prasad said that at the time of the battery recall, he had asked for a change but was told it was not required.
In a similar incident two days back, the mobile phone of Kishori Saha of Kolkata exploded while it was being charged.
The five-months pregnant Kishori escaped with minor splinter injuries to her face. However, her phone - a Nokia 2100 - contained the BLD-3 (also manufactured by Matsushita), and not the BL-5C battery.
Uh-oh. Has the increased attention caused by Nokia's battery recall caused isolated cases to gain more attention than they usually would? It's pretty hard to ignore such accident reports when personal injury is involved.
