Chances are, if you use a nokia-manufactured smartphone, typing in *#7370* (that's asterisk-pound-seven-three-seven-zero) while on the main screen will reset the phone and delete any data stored on it.
A great way to prevent any embarrassments, and a real benefit for celebrities who want to keep compromising secrets from the eager eyes of the media. Anybody know the quick reset procedure for the other brands? Palm's got their own slightly complicated procedure for its smartphones and PDAs, but it's still fast enough to pull through in dire situations.
Thanks to Technograph for the heads-up!
