Prepare For a New Kind of Scam on Your Smartphones and PDAs
Jun 26, 2007

Mauricio Freitas shares an email he received claiming that he was scammed. So of course, the good Samaritan offers to pay him $100,000. All to make up for the evil acts of "scams artists operating in syndicates all over the world today." Oh, he's also representing the UN!
The scammers are realizing that their old tricks don't work. So they're trying out this new approach. I'm just wondering how long this filters down into SMS, and it's not like high-end smartphones and PDAs can't access "normal" email.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: If an offer looks to good to be true, or if it sets off warning signs in your head, it's probably not legit.
