PDA Sales Increase
Jul 11, 2006
Now that 2005 is well behind us, companies have a complete picture of what happened. Indian-based market research firm RNCOS has is releasing a report indicating that PDA sales have increased. Here are a couple of its findings:
- Both the first and third quarters saw a 22% and 25% increase respectively, with the latter seeing shipments of 3.45 Million units.
- Europe played a big role in this growth, as it "was catching up with North America in terms of usage of PDAs…and cellular PDAs."
The full report costs $1800. It would've been nice to know how specific PDA manufacturers did, but I guess RNCOS has to recover its research costs.

How does that compare with the stories in the end of the year that the final demise for PDA slaes has started – see here:

I checked the report’s “Table of Content” (http://www.rncos.com/Report/IM044_toc.htm). It does differentiate between PDA and Smartphone, which eliminates my suspicion that they were considered one and the same.
I’ll try to contact the company for clarification, and get back to you ASAP. After all, wouldn’t they want to explain why a $1800 market report may be wrong?

Here’s RNCOS’ reply to my inquiry:
“Hello Rico,
Thank you for showing interest in our report. The information given by us correct. We are a desk based research company. The check on the net about this from Gartner Inc.”
I have no idea what that meant. Am I being referred to Gartner Inc. (www.gartner.com)?
