Mobile Browsers
by Umair Khalid on July 26, 2008

The Laptop Mag Blog has posted a very interesting article comparing the three most popular mobile browsers available in the market including Mozilla's Skyfire beta browser , Apple's safari browser and Opera's 9.5.1 beta mobile browser. The Safari browser is pre-loaded into Apple's Safari browser whereas the Skyfire and Opera mobile browsers are available for free download for Windows Mobile devices.
The guys at Laptop Mag Blog used an Apple iPhone 3G, a Windows Mobile 3G device loaded with Skyfire browser and a Windows Mobile 3G device loaded with Opera mobile browser for the comparison. They browsed a number of sites using all three devices and observed the load time for each site. Here are the observations:
The Skyfire browser is the fastest browser of the three and is the only browser with Flash 9 support. It also comes with Ajax, Java, and QuickTime support. The major weakness of the Skyfire browser is the small page size.
The Safari browser came second in terms of speed but doesn't have Flash 9 support. Its strengths are its pinch-zoom in and out feature, landscape/horizontal browsing feature, tab browsing and other features.
The Opera Mobile is the slowest of the three and doesn't support Flash 9 either. However it is more user friendly when compared to Skyfire browser.
