Open Source Linux OS to be Showcased at LinuxWorld

You are now reading The Smart PDA's first post on a mobile linux os. Like it's desktop counterpart, Linux hasn't gained widespread acceptance on handhelds, since no major manufacturer features models pre-installed with the OS. Though there are some users who go through the trouble of converting their units to run it.

That may change. According to a press release released by a la Mobile, the company will showcase their Convergent Linux Platform at the upcoming LinuxWorld Expo at San Francisco. They hope that the fact that it is easily adaptable to different kinds of handhelds will attract vendors.

Preaching to the Converted? Since LinuxWorld caters to Linux enthusiasts and vendors, will mainstream vendors become even aware of a la Mobile's software?

Not that phones crash often. But it would be good to see a Linux-powered smartphone in the mainstream. Yes, there are Linux-powered phones in the wild today but all run on independently developed iterations of the platform.A La Mobile will...
