New Technology May Allow Smartphones and PDAs to Serve as Projectors

Fraunhofer Institute, inventors of MP3, are currently developing a projector "no larger than a sugar cube." The German research firm hopes that they can integrate their tiny digital projectors into smartphones and PDAs, changing the way business presentations are done. No longer will bulky projectors be used, when conceivably the gadget can do the job itself.
The only problem that apparently remains has something to do with the color green. Projectors mix the colors Red, Green, and Blue (RGB) to create a picture. It seems that researchers still can't make the hardware needed to display green small enough. And of course, miniaturization always means a high price, at least initially. Hopefully though, with "researchers around the globe attempting to scale down the green light source," it will only be a matter of time before we see businessmen hosting a presentation with a pocket-sized smartphone or PDA.
Power Requirements: Currently, projecting an image requires a lot of power. Perhaps battery capacities also need to be improved before this technology can become feasible.

In 1987, the prestigious Fraunhofer Institut research center began researching high quality, low bit-rate audio coding, a project code-named EUREKA. The Fraunhofer research was led by Karlheinz Brandenburg often called the “father of MP3″. Brandenburg is the man behind today’s music as MP3 has fast become a popular format for music files both on the computer and with portable MP3 players.
