My Love Affair with the Newspaper Subscription

I don't know when my love affair with newspapers started. In high school I edited my school's newspaper and at the ripe young age of 19 I found myself working as a reporting for a little weekly paper in a small town in Georgia. I'd go listen at town council meetings and try to decide which parts were important and which parts were just routine, then write a few column inches about the meeting.
In college I was still working with papers. I paid for school with a scholarship that I got for editing my college paper. It even gave me an office on campus (which was a nice benefit). In the 25 years since graduating college I've worked a beat for a daily paper, moved into online journalism, and even written for the New York Times Company.
Today more than a quarter of all Americans read news on their mobile devices. But I still like the smell of news print and the feel of a real newspaper subscription in my hands.
