MuniFi is a mix of Municipal and WiFi. Apparently, it means free or low-cost wireless coverage for the entire locality. This means that it will be easier for mobile devices, such as smartphones and PDAs, to access the internet.
Great Point: GigaOM makes a good point about these small towns "taking control of their broadband future." And wireless provides a cheap way for these areas to quickly match the connectivity of their bigger neighbors. The third world could become on par with the first world in the same manner.
