the cult of Mac blog discusses why Apple will probably not use "iPhone" to name its rumored smartphone. Apparently, there is already a VOIP service called that.
Personally, I think it's time to drop the "i". It's starting to become cliché. The new MacBooks haven't used it, and no one rips on them for having poor names. But I'm not pushing for "MacPhone"; I'm sure the people at Apple can do way better than that.
