Mobile Phone Coverage Expected to Go Up to 90% by 2010

The recently created task force dedicated to promoting the mobile web in developing countries could turn out to be one of two things: either an effective initiative that increases mobile connectivity, or a new layer of supervisory bureaucracy that limits what service providers can offer their customers.
In any case, what's really interesting about .mobi's recent press release is the figure that over 80% of the world's population is under the coverage of some sort of mobile network. It becomes even more interesting when projections assume this figure will raise to 90% by 2010. Is it even a surprise that this data comes from the GSM association, supporters of the most popular way of communication for smartphones and PDA phones?
