Microsoft Gives Windows Mobile 6 Away

The successor to Windows Mobile 5.0 was announced during the 2007 3GSM. Now, Microsoft begins its full-court press to promote its next-generation mobile operating system, giving its mobile vendors copies of Windows Mobile 6. Apparently, the Redmond behemoth hopes manufacturers like Motorola, Samsung and Palm will upgrade current devices. HTC has already promised to offer upgrades to their thumbboard devices (hmmm, like the HTC Cavalier?)
This OS freebie is a rare (and welcome) move for Microsoft, who profit most from selling software licenses and upgrades. So much so that they're accused of intentionally releasing broken products to force users to pay for the bug fixes.
