Just How Much Space Do You Need on Your Smartphone or PDA?

Admit it, the prospect of a Nokia E90 with 8GB built-in is pretty mouthwatering. I know I'm drooling just thinking about it. But my practical side is thinking that we really don't need that much data on our portable powerhouses.
Owners of low to mid-end gadgets do pretty well with "only" megabytes of storage space. The fact is that possessing gobs of portable memory is still a luxury that most of us can live without.
Some of you are probably saying "But I need to access all my documents, music, and videos wherever I am!" Yes, I completely understand where you're coming from, but consider this: how long does your pricey smartphone or PDA stay separate from your computer?
My point is that your average high-end gadget (an oxymoron if I ever wrote one) already has enough space to carry enough content for one day's consumption. And you, being the power user that you are, regularly sync your data with a computer. That's why the need for bigger capacities isn't really that important. Sure, 8GB of storage is a welcome feature, but we've always made do with "little" memory, and will continue to do so.
That is, until smartphones and PDAs feature the same functionality and versatility as our computers. Face it, despite the overwhelming amount of advances made in size, feature set, and even construction, there are still things that a computer can do that a mobile gadget can't.
