Jewish Group Sues Sprint Over Failure to Create a Kosher Phone
Dec 16, 2006

Apparently, a bunch of rabbis wanted to Hasidic jews to enjoy the easy communication afforded by cell phones. But they also wanted the flock to stay away from features that make smartphones smartphones. Like mobile web access, streamed video, or even SMS messaging.
Yet despite such a simplistic feature set requirement, it took Sprint Nextel $150,000.00 to fulfill the request. And it looks like their clients aren't satisfied; the corporate face of the group, Vaad Harabbonim Letikshoreth, is suing.
Thanks to New York Magazine for the heads up.

This lawsuit deserves to be in Ripley’s Believe it or Not! I’m just trying to work out if this group will next demand that the phones they buy be assembled in a separate, Kosher factory, handled only by Jewish factory workers.

Now I don’t think they’d go that far. Then again, I never believed kids would sue their friends over missing iPods! (http://tinyurl.com/y6vgfv)
