For many months, the HTC TyTN (also known as the Dopod 838 Pro, the XDA Trion, thanks to the many confusing brands HTC devices end up as) reigned over the Windows Mobile world, claiming the title of most powerful. With a fast processor and generous connectivity options, all in a relatively compact shell, the TyTN deserved its trophy.
But, since days are months or even years in the world of smartphones and PDAs, the TyTN will soon be superseded by its successor: the HTC P4550, aptly nicknamed the kaiser. The Kaiser is worthy of its name because specs like these:
- Runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 Professional
- Quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 Mhz) PDA Phone
- GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, and HSUPA connectivity
- 384Mhz ARM processor
- 256MB ROM, 145MB user-accessible, 128MB SDRAM
- 2.8" QVGA transflective TFT color display
- Accepts SDIO, microSD, and TransFlash memory cards
- Bluetooth 2.0 and 802.11g WiFi
- 2.7 megapixel primary camera
- VGA (640 x 480) secondary camera for video calls
- NMEA 0183 GPS antenna
The Kaiser offers all of these integrated goodies, and a whole lot more, in a body 4mm thicker than its predecessor. And is lighter by 16 grams.
Except the Kaiser to ship this coming July.
