Auctioning off since August 9 the rights to the Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) Spectrum, which service providers need to provide full 3G service to customers, the government agency has raised over $8.1 Billion alone from the top three bidders.
So when operators finally offer full 3G coverage in Continental America, don't be surprised if prices are a little too high for your taste. Service providers must regain their investment, and customers are their primary source of income. But it's crucial that operators come up with convenient and relevant services, or else they'll find no takers. If they do find a workable model, expect fees to be high in the beginning, then slowly slide as customers increase.
Who's Who? Many names on the bidding list are not well-known; find out more about the players.
