Google has recognized the improving capabilities of even low-end smartphones and PDAs, by updating the mobile version of its popular webmail service Gmail.
New features include a badly-needed footer telling recipients that you're sending messages from a mobile, the ability to recognize phone numbers and make them available for easy one-click dialing, and draft auto-saving.
Owners of gadgets with thumbboards will probably enjoy the addition of keyboard shortcuts. Connectivity will consider the lessened data consumption a plus, as well as the promise of 30 percent overall speed increase. The new Gmail mobile requires Java ME support.
Thanks to the Official Gmail blog for the heads-up and the screenshot. Visit the service site for more details.
