According to latest handset market share statistics released by Gartner for first quarter of 2008 , the Korean mobile giant LG has overtaken sony Ericsson and secured the fourth position in the handset market. It was expected that LG would do well this time around as it is offering some cool phones at affordable prices.
The Swedish mobile giant Nokia still holds the first position, Samsung comes second and Motorola secures the third position. Both Nokia and Samsung observed an increase in market share as compared to the same period last year. These are worrying times for Sony Ericsson as it slipped to number 5 position whereas Motorola saw a huge fall in market share.
Here the the details:
1. Nokia: 39.1% market share, 115.2 million devices sold
2. Samsung: 14.4% market share, 42.4 million devices sold
3. Motorola: 10.2% market share, 29.9 million devices sold
4. LG: 8% market share, 23.6 million devices sold
5. Sony Ericsson: 7.5% market share,22.1 million devices sold
