The clamshell partner of the Samsung Ultra Edition trio, nothing about this smartphone grabs more attention than its slim profile. But in this case, thinness isn't frailty. The SGH-D830 survived a trip in the back pocket, and shrugs off assertive bending pressure.
And yes, the phone is responsive as heck, despite the use of vibrant colors and dynamic animations. The big fonts are easy to read, and even though the matte black finish likes fingerprints, it doesn't scratch easily. Some users will like the 2.0 megapixel camera, but as with most built-in cameras, great snapshots or videos are only possible in decent to perfect lighting.
Apparently, to make space for the rest of the smartphone's components, the D830 boasts the world's thinnest numeric keypad. It' easy to think it's a touch-sensitive pad, but you'll realize soon enough that you're pressing real buttons, after sensing the slight depressions as you push down. It will take longer to get used to things and reach your fastest texting speed, for sure.
But once again, all of these are overshadowed by the SGH-D830's ultra-thin form factor. You're left wondering how a gadget that isn't even a centimeter thick works decently.
