Expect Four New HTC Models to Create More Naming Confusion

So it seems HTC has officially announced two smartphones and two PDAs. Of course, all models run Windows Mobile 5, and expect these models to get new names as operators get their own versions. In retrospect, this is actually a good thing; I've always found alphanumericlinks gadget names boring. *cough*Nokia!*cough*

The S620 was already featured here, under the codename "Excalibur." This model obviously has the Motorola Q in its sights, as it features a QWERTY keyboard, push e-mail functionality, and the ability to edit documents, all in a slim 12.8mm package. Turns out the rumors of built-in Bluetooth, quad-band capability, and a touch-sensitive "jog strip" are correct. Connectivity buffs will like the integrated Wi-Fi.


Probably at the other end of the price range is the S310, which looks to be a basic smartphone with "high specification multimedia functionality" (whatever that means). No details other than quad-band capacities were specified.

Perhaps the standalone PDA market will continue to survive thanks to HTC's new offerings, as they mix a traditional feature set with something new.

First up is the P3300, a PDA with GPS built-in. A trackball will help future users navigate the maps, and the 2.8" screen won't hurt too. One thing I don't get though is why HTC plans to release this unit in two versions: one with all navigational data loaded, and another with incomplete maps.

Probably the most interesting feature of the P3600 is the fact that it's HSDPA-ready. This means that owners roaming in UMTS cellular networks will be able to have high-speed access to the Internet.

Appearance Schedule: Expect the S620 and P3300 to pop-up in Europe this October. The S310 and the P3600 will appear on September.
