Enjopying Great Videos on Your Nokia E61

The Nokia E61 (and its successor the E61i) enjoy the spacious real-estate of a relatively large (for smartphones or PDAs) scren. This means users get to see more stuff on the displays. Such as more items in their to-do-list, appointments in the calendar, and pixels when watching a video.
Problem is, the Symbian Series 60 (S60) 3rd Edition, the OS that powers the E61 and many more of Nokia's recent offerings, isn't great at showing videos. To be frank, the bundled realplayer sucks.
Luckily some people have lots of time on their hands and are willing to share the fruits of their hard labor. People like Nico of Software in Review, who tested different compression settings until he came across a configuration that results in great videos for the Nokia E61. And he's helpfully provided the steps and settings you should apply to literally get the best video the E61's QVGA display can offer.
It's also possible Nico's tweaks work on the Nokia E61i, since that smartphone shares similarities with its predecessor. And perhaps other Symbian S60 3rd Edition smartphones also enjoy the benefits. Thanks to the E-Series blog for the heads-up.

The E61 is a fabulous phone. I got mine about 2 months back to replace my palm treo 680 and that’s much better.

I guess the only drawback to the E61 are the ergonomics (it feels too flat) and the lack of a camera. But then again, it fits in pockets nicely, and built-in cameras aren’t that great anyways.
