Here are some interesting facts and figures:
- On September 7, 1987, 15 telecoms signed an agreement that led to the development of the Global System for Mobile Communications (better known as GSM) standard.
- Over 2.5 billion GSM phones have shipped
- Last year, users made 7 trillion minutes of calls and 2.5 trillion text messages.
- china mobile is the world's largest mobile operator with 332 million customers.
- The GSM Association will film a documentary celebrating these milestones, and have set up a website about it.
- I, and most of the people I know, have never used a non-GSM mobile.
CDMA may be technically superior to GSM, but the people have voted with their money. I guess good marketing can pay off so well.
