Here are some interesting facts and figures:

On September 7, 1987, 15 telecoms signed an agreement that led to the development of the Global System for Mobile Communications (better known as GSM) standard.

Over 2.5 billion GSM phones have shipped

Last year, users made 7 trillion minutes of calls and 2.5 trillion text messages.

china mobile is the world's largest mobile operator with 332 million customers.

The GSM Association will film a documentary celebrating these milestones, and have set up a website about it.

I, and most of the people I know, have never used a non-GSM mobile.

CDMA may be technically superior to GSM, but the people have voted with their money. I guess good marketing can pay off so well.
