Jayvee wants to hold on to his wallet regarding the ipod touch. And he made me wonder: does user-friendliness come at a cost to versatility?
The way I see it, smartphones and PDAs designed for "dumb" users are designed to be as simple as possible. To keep things straightforward, the set of options and buttons to press are limited. Aside from the iPhone and iPod touch, you have mobiles designed for senior citizens.
On the other end of the field are kitchen sinks like the Nokia E90 and the Sony-Ericsson P1. Wouldn't you agree that many people would find their many many options overwhelming?
Of course, it's good idea to make your products as easy to use as possible. But what if you're turning off the power users, who are more willing to pay more for their gadgets?
The point is that whichever maker finds the perfect balance between ease of use and versatility-and manages to market their product properly-will win the vote of the dollar.
What do you think?
