Apple's iPhone to get Sun Java friendly

Sun Microsystems has recently announced that it is working on a Java Virtual Machine for Apple's revolutionary iPhone Smartphone. This is wonderful news as this would allow iPhone users to install and run Java applications & games on the iPhone. This also means that the Apple's iPhone would gain more popularity as it would begin supporting wide range of third party mobile applications and games. The Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is expected to be released in the third quarter of 2008.

Apple however hasn't shown interest in supporting Java on its iPhone up till now. Here are a few statements that Sun's vice president of Java marketing Eric Klein made regarding this:

"Now, the iphone is open"
"We're going to make sure that the JVM offers the Java applications as much access to the native functionality of the iPhone as possible"
"Once our JVM is on the phone, we anticipate that a large number of Java applications would run on the phone"

Please let us know what do you think about this move by Sun. If you want to read more about this please visit Info World.
