The Smart PDA first featured AVVENU, a recently announced service that streams music files from your iTunes library to a mobile, a few days ago. And we wondered if the service would really be useful, since it wouldn't be able to play DRM-protected files bought from the iTunes store.
But now that music without copy-protection is available from the online shop, AVVENU Suddenly looks a lot more practical. As long as users buy the new DRM-free songs from iTunes' EMI catalog, they'll be able to listen to it on their AVVENU-enabled gadget.
Which begs the question: does AVVENU have the inside track regarding Apple's future plans? Or did I simply criticize the service prematurely? Both announcements came on the same day (April 2, 2007). Regardless of what's the right answer, I owe the people of AVVENU an apology for jumping the gun. Because real men (and women) have no problems admitting they're wrong.
