Amazon Offers Motorola Q for $99.99

Now I've seen everything. Amazon is selling the Motorola Q for only $99.99 (again, locked in with a 2-year plan from exclusive distributor Verizon Wireless). But despite heavy subsidies, Motorola and Verizon haven't lost their minds. The cheapest data plan available with the phone, aimed at corporate customers, is $79.99/month, with the most expensive at $169.99.
Turns out pricing isn't the big gambit. The two companies can basically offer the phone for free, and still make a significant profit at the end of the two year contract. The real question is, does the Motorola Q provide enough incentive for companies to commit to expensive 2 year contracts for their executives?

Just bought one via Amazon and both a one year contract with a $35 activation fee and a two year contract with NO activation fee were available.

Sure the URL for the Offer starts here:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000FYU4SO/ref=nosim/httwwwchacom322-20
Put in your Zip Code and click the Check Availability Button, then assuming you have availability, click the Select This Phone button – keep following the screens till you pay.

That’s great John. Are you interested in guest writing for The Smart PDA? I’m sure people will like to hear what you think of the Motorola Q, once you’ve started using it…

Got the Q, had it up running in minutes easy to activate and get programmed with Verizon. Within a few minutes had it pulling email from my POP3 account with pacbell.net, which is why I got it. All without the aid of looking at a user manual – OK did have instructions from the Moto Support site – but then outlook is not that hard to configure. Did need help from VZW support but finally did get it to function as a tethered modem with my laptop. Did a bandwidth test and got 470kbps RX – very respectable. Needed VZW support to find drivers and management software for the laptop – at their website vzam.net. Also had to add the tethered feature to the account $15/month, and reprogram the phone (*228). But in the end it all worked flawlessly.
So far I love the phone and have not had any problems except the tethering info – the phone was ready out of the box – others may need the upgrade from Motorola – all that info is at the vzam website.
Now wireless sync is next!

Maybe you should look at the so-called “Q-killers.” Gizmodo has some leaked brochures showing that the HTC Excalibur (renamed T-Mobile Dash) will be released on October 16: http://tinyurl.com/jy6gl

Got the wireless sync working with literally no problems. Just downloaded the appropriate montior (based on emai system), do my PC at work, registered on the wireless link website, put the account number and password in the Q and voila` I am now receiving my corporate email. I can read and reply and it all works flawlessly. When I reply or send from my Q phone, a copy is inserted in my sent folder on the corporate server, just as if I’d used the client on my desktop. It also gets my Calendar, and To Do list. VERY NICE, worht the price of admission. One feature lacking was syncronization of Notes from my personal outlook client. See another Blog entry about that.

SYNC TO OUTLOOK NOTES.
Hmmm, no notes. Called VZW – not a feature on the Q. Yikes! It can read a TXT document but the font was so small it was hard to read. Solution, Notepad Mobile from Handango, syncs to Outlook and notes appear just right size to read.
