Smartphones

According to Reuter's website, Nokia has said it has sold over a million units of the 3250. The music-oriented smartphone, released last March, boasts a loud speaker, MP3 playback, and FM reception.
Symbian Watch also reports Nokia's success, but apparently with a vested interest. Here's what they said:
From a technical standpoint, the Nokia 3250 music phone is based on S60 3rd Edition software and Symbian OS, which can turn a smartphone into a versatile portable music player capable of playing a wide array of digital music formats. In addition to making it easy to load and transfer music, the S60 3rd Edition software allows people to purchase music and share their musical experiences and recommendations with their friends.
Perhaps Symbian should also explain why the new OS isn't backward-compatible, and why interface lag is still unbearably long. Is Nokia releasing unresponsive phones because of the units' dependence on Symbian?

Haha, it really is silly, with its weird dancing. Who the heck dances with a speaker in his hand? :-o
Here in the Philippines, Nokia showed a better 3250 ad in theaters: A guy was simply listening to music, with tattoos on his arm growing and shrinking to the beat of the music. The tattoos disappear when a call comes in, the guy answers. It was simple, but it really made me wanna buy it. :-)

Well the promotion of symbian by nokia is just in the interest of nokia itself. Agreed that symbian reduces the threat of viruses but what about third party applications???? The choice of the customer interms of software goes down drastically.

I wouldn't blame Nokia for promoting Symbian. You can see from http://www.symbian.com/about/overview/ownership/ownership.html
that they own almost 50% of the OS.
Although I do agree that there should be more third-party applications. Perhaps they should encourage open-source development?
